Echoes Its Soul. Exceeds Its Era.

Comprehensive Resolution Enhancement

Building on the pure spherical Pre-ASPH optical architecture, we have introduced modern materials to comprehensively improve resolution by 20–25%, while maintaining the exact same compact dimensions. The improvement is particularly noticeable in wide-open shooting at f/1.4, where resolution performance has been significantly enhanced.

Classic Dimensional Rendering

The pure spherical construction of the Mandler 50mm f/1.4 imparts a distinctive three-dimensional quality to every image. Subjects separate naturally from their backgrounds, appearing to "lift" from the frame — each shot steeped in the timeless atmosphere of the film era.

Dream-like Bokeh

Through meticulous control of spherical aberration, out-of-focus highlights and blur lines extend naturally along the spherical curvature, forming a subtly swirling visual trail — much like the flowing brushstrokes of a Monet landscape — conjuring a uniquely vortical, airy quality.

Effortless close-up capability: 50cm minimum focusing distance.

Minimum focusing distance progresses from 1m on the E43 (1961), to 70cm on the E46 (2004), and now to 50cm on the Mandler 50mm f/1.4 (2026), opening greater freedom for close-up composition.

Near-distance optimization strengthens detail reproduction across the extended focusing range. Despite adding 20cm of close-focus capability, the lens retains the original E46’s 100° focusing throw for precise, intuitive manual control.

Fine Damping, Effortless Control

All versions feature the same solid brass core construction as the original factory design.

Black Anodized Aluminum Version · 290 g

High-strength aluminum alloy with an anodized surface finish, balancing durability and portability.

Chrome-Plated Brass Version · 385 g

Solid brass throughout, with a finely detailed chrome-plated finish. Substantial, stable, and crafted for a premium tactile feel.

The focusing ring offers smooth, consistent damping with a short throw. The aperture ring clicks with clarity and precision, allowing accurate operation even in low light.

The lens hood features a built-in pull-out design, eliminating the need to carry a separate hood and integrating seamlessly with the lens body.

FAQs

Should I choose M mount or LTM?

Choose M mount if you use a Leica M camera or another compatible M-mount body.

Choose LTM if you use a Leica Thread Mount camera, also commonly described as L39 or M39, or if you plan to use an LTM-to-M adapter.

If you are uncertain, send us the exact make and model of your camera at sales@mandler.shop before ordering.

Is this lens compatible with my camera?

The M-mount version fits Leica M and compatible M-mount cameras. The LTM version fits compatible L39/LTM cameras.

The lens can also be used on many mirror less cameras with the correct adapter. Compatibility and focusing behavior may vary, so contact us with your exact camera model if you are uncertain.

Does it have auto-focus?

No. The Mandler 50mm F1.4 PRE-A is a fully manual-focus lens. Depending on your camera, focusing can be performed using the rangefinder, live view, magnification or focus peaking.

Aluminum or Chrome-plated Brass—which should I choose?

Both versions use the same optical design.

  • Aluminum: approximately 290g, lighter and better suited for daily carry and usage.
  • Chrome-plated brass: approximately 385g, heavier with a denser, more traditional mechanical feel.

Choose according to your preferred weight, finish and handling experience.

What is included?

The contents depend on the option selected at checkout. A Lens Only purchase does not automatically include a metal lens cap or UV filter. Check your cart and order confirmation carefully before completing payment.

What filter size does it use?

The Mandler The 50mm f/1.4 PRE-A uses E46 filters with a 46mm thread. Confirm that the filter is labelled 46mm or E46 before purchasing.

Which lens hood is compatible?

The 50mm f/1.4 PRE-A features a built-in, pull-out lens hood, eliminating the need to carry a separate hood while integrating seamlessly with the lens body.

What is the minimum focusing distance?

The minimum focusing distance is approximately 0.5 metres. Rangefinder coupling is supported only from 0.7 metres to infinity; actual focusing and rangefinder performance may vary depending on the camera body and adapter used.

Is it weather-sealed?

No. Protect the lens from rain, moisture, sand and heavy dust. If it becomes wet, switch off the camera, remove the lens in a dry environment and allow it to dry naturally before further use. Do not apply heat.

Initial reactions: terrific value, very nice carry weight for EDM. Very sharp at center wide open. Love having the closer focus for portraits. A nice blend of modern/vintage.. The files give me plenty to work with in Capture One. The one area I'd like improved is to have haptic feedback when going below .7 meters.

So far well pleased with the 50mm 1.4, I recently made a trip to Cleveland, OH USA and brought this lens and the Mandler 35mm along with my Leica M 11 and M3. Well pleased with the results of what I made pictures of. In a few weeks will be heading to the Eastern Sierras for a few days. I am sure that I will be happy with the results. Thanks Rick

I bought the silver 50mm f/1.4 because I love vintage lenses with a distinctive optical character, and this one certainly delivers.

The rendering is absolutely beautiful. Wide open, it produces a wonderful combination of sharp details, soft transitions, dreamy bokeh and a subtle glow. Shooting into the sunlight is where the real magic happens: spectacular lens flares, colorful reflections and a wonderfully cinematic atmosphere.

What I particularly enjoy is that the lens doesn't try to be clinically perfect. Its optical imperfections are exactly what make the images so interesting and full of character.

The silver finish looks gorgeous, the build quality feels excellent, and using it on my Nikon Z8 with a close-focus adapter has been a real pleasure.

This is not a lens for people who want maximum technical perfection. It's a lens for photographers who enjoy experimenting with light and creating images with personality.

A beautiful little piece of photographic art. Highly recommended!

Excellent value for money. The finish and the haptics are very good and the optical qualities are astonishing for a vintage style lens. In today’s world this is a very nice additional choice when it comes to 50mm lenses. I would not prefer it over today’s 50mm Leica lenses - it serves another purpose. And it does this well.

The lens is very well built and can render sharp images even at 1.4. I love the color it produces. Packaging is top notch compared to some other chinese lens manufacturer. I love the design has a groove built in for lens coding... this is genius. Please keep producing affordable quality M Mount lens.

Plenty sharp (f2) with beautiful color rendition. The bokeh is smooth too!! My brass version is so well made I might buy 35mm.

The user experience of this lens is very close to my Leica 50/1.4 (silver 11892). Focusing is easy and seems to be quite accurate. My only minor complaint is the tiny play of the lens hood and the non-alignment of the white dot on the lens hood with that on the lens. Overall, I think it was worth the money. One other small complaint, I had my ipad turned on well before sales opened, yet the black version was shown to be sold out even before I hit the keyboard. Puzzled.

Lovely lens. Well made and packaged. More shooting needed to work out just how unique the results will be, but first impressions are excellent on both film and digital.

Fast shipment, strange that the silver cap does not fit once the filter is attached…
